Approximately 50,000 HIF policies will receive payments ranging from $15 per policy, for a single with Extras only cover, up to $90 per policy for HIF families with both Hospital and Extras cover.
HIF Chief Executive Officer Justin James said he was delighted to confirm that prior to Christmas HIF will give $2.8 million back to its members.
“In total, HIF has invested close to $9 million in COVID-19 hardship measures to support our members during these unprecedented times. The COVID-19 payment is only part of this commitment which also included the extension of mental health support, policy suspensions, deferred premium increases, and product updates to include access to telehealth and teledentistry services, that the HIF team put in place, to support members,” he said.
HIF will make payments to eligible members who held an active, domestic HIF Hospital and/or Extras cover between 1 April 2020 and 30 June 2021 and were an HIF member on 30 September 2021 are eligible. They will receive one payment per policy, as opposed to a payment for each person covered by their policy. These dates reflect when most Australian Hospital and Extras healthcare services were interrupted.
