Extras Claims
At HIF, we're all about choice. That's why, when it comes to making an Extras claim, we have a host of convenient options. From on-the-spot eClaiming to our nifty mobile app, to claiming online, by email, fax or post. Simply choose the option that suits you best! Oh, and if you find an old receipt you forgot to claim, don't stress - you can lodge Extras claims up to two years from the original date of service.
Claim on the spot with instant eClaiming
Most Australian health service providers now offer on-the-spot electronic claiming, the quickest and easiest way to claim for Extras. Simply swipe your Membership Card through the eClaiming terminal and your rebate is deducted from the fee automatically. All you have to do then is pay any additional out of pocket expenses (if there are any). It’s that easy. To find your nearest provider with HICAPS eClaiming facilities, visit hicaps.com.au
Claim online at a time that suits you
Our online Member Centre gives you access to a range of services to help manage your policy with the click of a mouse, including lodging an Extras claim online. Even better, you’ll instantly see the estimated benefit payable! Before you get started, you'll just need to ensure that your provider's fees are paid in full before uploading receipts for any of the following services.

Claim on the go with our HIF Member mobile app
The 'HIF member app' can be downloaded for free from the Apple and Android stores. Through the app, you can easily make an Extras claim and access your membership info, policy details and claims history all in one place. It’s just one more way we’re making a ‘hifference’ for our members. To lodge an Extras claim, simply tap in your details, use your device's camera to snap photos of your invoices, hit the submit button and you’re done! From there, the HIF member app cleverly bundles up everything you’ve submitted and emails one copy to us for processing, and one copy to you for reference. It’s quick, efficient, and your money will be reimbursed asap.

If you have Extras Cover which includes
Healthy Lifestyle Benefits, you can also use the app to claim for exercise physiology and gym memberships when a signed Health Management Form by a GP or medical practitioner is attached as an additional photograph.
Claim by email
Prefer to claim by email? No worries! As long as the provider's account has been paid in full first, you can scan your completed claim form and associated receipts, then email the documents to claims@hif.com.au
Claim by mail
We love getting post from our members! So if you're still a fan of good ol' snail mail, you're welcome to submit your Extras claims that way instead. Just download a claim form, attach the relevant accounts and post it to: HIF, Whadjuk Country, Reply Paid, GPO Box X2221, Perth, WA 6000.
Important information
When lodging an Extras claim, please ensure the following details and documents are included (claims received without these details will be returned unprocessed):
- The member’s full name
- The patient’s name
- The healthcare provider’s name
- The member’s signature
- An itemised account
- The receipt.
Please also hold on to all original invoices and receipts for two years from the date you lodge an Extras claim.
Inpatient Hospital & Medical Claims
When admitted to a hospital as a private patient, you'll be asked to pay your Hospital Cover excess at the time of admission (if one applies).
After your excess payment has been processed, all hospital and doctor's accounts will be sent to us directly on your behalf. That means you can rest easy and recover in peace, knowing that we'll take care of all the paperwork for you.
If you do receive a hospital account though, don't worry. Simply post it to HIF, Whadjuk County, Reply Paid X2221, Perth, WA 6847 along with a completed HIF claim form (and a Medicare claim form too if need be).

Please note:
- Please ensure you send all doctors accounts to HIF first, not Medicare (claims sent to Medicare first are not eligible for any AccessGap payments). Accounts need to be sent in with claim forms for both Medicare and HIF in this instance.
- For inpatient pathology and radiology services, claims can be submitted to either HIF or Medicare first (provided both an HIF claim form and Medicare claim form are supplied).
- Our HIF Member app is only available for Extras claims. To submit a medical claim, please complete a claim form
Register your bank details to receive your benefits in a jiffy!
If you choose to make an Extras claim online or via HIF Member app or email, your rebates will be credited directly into your bank account within five working days. No more cheques, no more bank queues. Easy!
If you're a current HIF member who hasn't registered for Direct Credit yet - please get in touch and we'll be happy to update your preferences. Alternatively, you can add or edit your Direct Credit details within our online Member Centre.
If you're not an HIF member yet but intend to join in the future - you can nominate your bank account for Direct Credit during the online application process.
